It’s hard not to like dolphins. I’ve encountered them free diving- they were curious but we were too slow to interest them, kayaking, and many times on whale watch boats. A few species will bow ride, most are not afraid of us, and they are a pleasure to watch. They move much faster than most whale boats, so encounters are on their terms. The most commonly sighted species in Northern California are Risso’s, common- both long and short beaked, white sided, right whale, and bottlenose.
